Objective and Focus

Because, the intersectionality of crime and sexual orientation is particularly fascinating, the prime objective of this blog is to discuss and research cases that focus on crimes committed by individuals or against individuals that identified as gay.

More specifically, I ask what maladaptive behaviors, ideas, and attitudes among gay men and gay culture increase the likely hood of victimization?

Does pornography depicting hardcore sadomasochism, drug use, and anonymous sex normalize violence and aggression?

To what extent do contemporary societal perceptions of homosexuality impact the reporting, investigating, and persecution of crimes committed against/by gay men?

The Rainbow Maniac

  • Case is currently considered unsolved, because the prime suspect was found "not guilty" and released from custody 
  •  Took place between February 2007- August 2008
  • claimed 13 victims, 12 of which were shot in the head
  • one victim received blunt force trauma to the head 
  • victim's were all gay males, between the ages of 20-40
  • targeted local cruising park, Paturis Park in Carapicuiba, Brazil 
  • Suspected to work in law enforcement (state police) 
  • Eye witness claimed to see Jairo Francisco Franco, shoot a black man 12 times
  • Physical evidence corroborated that one of the victims had been shot 12 times

Interestingly enough, the socio-political environment and negative towards homosexuality appear to have impacted the efficiency and outcome of the investigation.
